Still 4 X 40 ppp behind, so taking a breather in order to respond. Feel like I've been reading for 24 hours straight!
BB,
When ya mentioned ST da other evening, I did a lil' sleuthing. Found dat a Lowes' $299 convection microwave 3 year warranty ran 'bout $30 in house. ST was ten bucks more.
So I do think dat it all depends on both da device and current retailers options. IOW, do pre-purchase due diligence based upon da device and source.
Was impressed wid ST's policy; especially da 30 day post-purchase option.
Not bad mouthing 'em at all. Just do a lil' comparison prior to an anticipated purchase.
BTW, going from an ST 3 year to a 5 contract, a bit more dan double (understandably).
You are correct. The Lowe's warranties are definitely less expensive than I remembered them being. (Maybe I'd been looking at Home Depot but maybe not... like you said... due diligence is called for.) I checked another Lowe's microwave that was just over $300 and the warranty cost doubled for the in-house warranty, but it may have been for more years, don't remember and don't want to go look again.
Most important though, Happy Vapervarsaries to you and Matt!
I think you got it. The heck with the rest of us, he took this one for Miles! Think he'd just about do anything for that little baby!
And don't worry, he'll eat well for a month even if it is in the old kitchen. There was a guy that was supposed to come over last night to talk about the kitchen and Mike called him (before he got to feeling so much worse) that he REALLY didn't want to come here just now. So, we'll just have to wait awhile longer to see about the kitchen. I'm thinking that if I'm going to replace 1 appliance it will definitely be the fridge. Don't know if the cost of replacing cabinets will allow it, but this side-by-side drives me nuts. I want the 2 door opening with the freezer on the bottom. Anybody have any recommendations? Years ago I wouldn't have had to think about it - just get a Whirlpool, but no more, especially given our earlier conversation about tools and what's happened to big headed corporations
Jan, we have one of those double door freezer on bottom monstrosities. I HATE it. It's fridge section is TINY. If you have a freezer there is no reason to get it. Most of it iz freezer. I miss my old regular freezer on top monster. Twice the room for fridge stuff. Every time we open this one we have to take half the stuff out since what we want is behind something else. For me... giant FAIL.
But, of course, YMMV.
As far as the fridge goes - with todays products - I would be scared to recommend one over another - I can say avoid to many bells and whistles if you can - less to break and the electronics go first...
As to the appliance talk. Only major appliances I've ever bought were a W/D. Always bough kenmore power mate vacuums and loved em! Have had 2 and they last forever. Tried to get a maytag washer but they were skinny around and very deep, and I didn't want that, but got a different type at Sears that wasn't as deep and bigger around. can't remember now what it was, but we bought it in 96 and it lasted til this last move in 2012 when my son accidentally dropped it hard off the step even though it was on a dolly. It was a big step. Would have lasted who knows how long if it hadn't been for that.
omgggggggg that woman on there has more money than sense.......$2,000 for a painting done by a goat???
I've never had a side by side, but others have that I've seen/used.......my son and dil had one in house they were renting...... I hate those!!! Learned enough to know I'd never willingly have one. They're horrible. In the new house they have one with fridge on top and freezer on bottom, and my SIL has one like that. They're aren't bad I don't think. I like em cuz it hurts me to bend over to look for stuff, and since I get in the fridge more than the freezer, it's up higher so I dont' have to bend over and makes it less painful.
Hope I haven't misquoted anyone... fairly major editing so it's possible. Register any complaints with the new Complaint Manager, Ms Helen Waitt. Bypass other methods, just go straight to Helen Waitt.
That woman who was asked how much she'd pay for a goat painting said she'd only pay that much if it was really good. I think she was having fun with the interviewer.
I like my bottom-freezer 3-door fridge/freezer a lot after 3+ months. Like Semi, though, I wouldn't want to recommend one and then have you hate it. Plus, it has some idiosyncracies that might turn out to be things you don't like even though they don't bother me at all. The freezer is quite spacious but the basket design might have its detractors. I really like the fact that it has door alarms that go off after a couple a few minutes if any door is left ajar. I bought a $125 5-year SquareTrade warranty to go along with it, since I just finished getting burned by a Frigidaire.
This is the unit I got:

Regarding Kenmore, my 1993 washer and dryer are still going strong but I did have to invest something south of $10 in a new control knob for the washer.
