I've been trying Temperature Control vaping for about 2 years, off and on. It's been a lot more off than it's been on, due to the complexity of TC, but I'm a believer in the technology.

Today, for the past 6 hours, I'm having such a good experience with TC that for the first time, it's as good or better than any vaping I've ever done in my 4+ years of vaping. It's so good that even if the coil lasts less than a day, I'll make another, even though it takes me about half an hour to make, mount and wick a coil. The time can vary depending on whether or not I need a do-over, but I don't think I could make one in 10 minutes even if everything went perfectly.

Tank: Kanger SubTank Plus using the RBA head
Coil: 6 wraps of 26 gauge SS 304, 3 mm loops, resistance 0.45 - 0.53 ohms. I tried to space the coils a little but it's very close to being a contact coil.
Wick: organic cotton, the fattest strip I could squeeze through the coil.
Mod: YiHi SXMini Q Class with SS 304 setting, 20 Joules, 310 F temperature, 75 F (room temperature) temperature compensation.

A happy boy am I.

I already mentioned this on the BP but thought I would also mention it here, too. I was in need of more SS316L and went to Temco to check the price. This was last weekend. Temco actually had it listed as a 3-month backorder. Well, on Monday I decided to go ahead and order it so that when it did come out of back order I would get it. Today, I had to go out and take care of some business. As I left the house, I checked the mailbox and low and behold there was an envelope from Temco. My order of 250' of SS316L was delivered!

Looks like Simar didn't last long.

Not specifically, but I rebuild my PT coils with cotton. No problems.

I rewick right out of the box, can't tolerate silica, so thought it would be nice not to have to do that. Back to rewicking right out of the box. :(

As long as it's a rebuildable (like PT), you don't need a warehouse full!

Nice to see ya again, Flamingo! Hurry up and get that new computer!

Agreed. If I didn't have such a bad habit of burning cotton, I would prefer it. You don't have to pack it into the coil so tight. So, it's less trouble to wick.

Vape goodies for the Front Porch! Yummy!

Thank you for that info.

Welcome to the Front Porch, Simar Sidhu! Make yourself comfortable and tell us your story. We love stories!

Nice to see you too, DH!

I know I don't need a warehouse full, but I worry.

My 90+ boxes of coils that work in the PT, Aerotanks, and various versions of Evods...aren't mainly for me though. Most of them are for other people (still pretty new to vaping) who don't build/rebuild anything. :D

90+ boxes?! Now I have coil envy. :thumb:

I'd go back to smoking (kidding) if it took me that long to make a coil. I am certain I've saved a small fortune because I'm not fond of ecig tinkering but I do envy those of you that do like to experiment and fiddle with new stuff. Really glad it's working for you.

   Late April Fool's joke? Glad you got it quickly. Perhaps drop them a note that's there's a glitch on their site if it's still listed that way? (I tried to look it up but their site is not responding or my computer is having a fit.) Temco is a great company.

Have any of you tried the cotton PT coils? I guess they came out two years ago but didn't hear about them until about a month or two ago. They last me from less than a day to three days but I'm :censored: hypersensitive to inhaling random stuff. Would love to hear if anyone else tried them.

Yes, I definitely prefer them over the original ones. I notice the taste of my eliquids is much better to me...with the cotton wicking. When the old ones are the same price as the newer ones with the Japanese Organic Cotton Wick...I always buy the newer cotton ones.

I made a new coil this morning, just 25 hours after the previous one. This time, the old one was still working very well, but it wasn't working GREAT.

I timed the process of making the new coil, from last toke on old coil to first toke on new coil. No snafus, and it still took 26 minutes. Plus, although the new coil is vaping GREAT, I know that one of the end loops is significantly wider spaced from the next loop than the spacing of the other loops, so I think it's possible that this coil may have to be replaced within hours. But dang, it tastes so good, it will be worthwhile. I do hope I can find a way to either speed up the coil-making process or make coils that stay in top shape for a longer period of time.

I don't pulse, dry-burn or check the function and resistance prior to installing them and using them. That may not fit the conventional wisdom, I know. All I do is build 'em, install 'em, put the tank on my mod, have the mod measure and set the resistance, and use 'em.

How's 'bout winding a bunch of coils ahead of time. Then when it comes time to recoil/rewick, you'll save on the coil winding time.

That might work. I could just keep feeding wire into the Coil Master and make 10 or 20 coils, then cut them apart after I'm done.

Well, after only 15 minutes of vaping, the performance of the coil I made an hour ago was starting to suffer... I suspect that my cotton wick was too thick... it was really tight through the coil. So, I made a whole new coil, and shaved one minute off my previous time... only took 25 minutes! With a slightly thinner wick, I think this one might get me to tomorrow morning. :thumb:

I also lowered the temperature from 310 F to 295 F, which is working well at the moment.

Sometimes I read posts from people who can rewick in 27 seconds and make a new coil and install it in 93 seconds. It takes me longer than that just to get the wire and scissors laid out. Then you got to get the tank taken apart and cleaned and dried. It's more like, it's coil changing night, clear my schedule.

While I don't TC, still seems like a really short time of life for a coil/wick....

Is your juice a heavy gunker?
I get about 3 weeks out of a pre-built Kanger organic cotton coil in power mode, so I figure there's no reason my DIY SS-304-and-organic-cotton TC coils can't last a whole lot longer once I figure out what improvements I can/should make to them.

Tank taken apart, cleaned and dried? What you talking about? Even when I replace the tank gaskets, which is maybe once a year, I usually don't do that.

I'm stocked up on PT coils. I did 20 at a sitting 2 or 3 times a week. It took months but now I've got around 500 in an old tobacco tin. Since I rewick them several times I reckon I'll never have to make another one.

I would like to do the same for Kayfun and Lemo coils. But I'm still experimenting with wire and resistance and so forth. It would be really cool to have a big box full. All separated by resistance and so forth. With the bends for the screws already in place.

I've been thinking about building some kind of jig to hold the coil in place and make the bends in the coil legs. I'm sure there must be a way. Has anyone ever done that?

Well sometimes I get lazy and don't clean the top part of the tank. But you got to clean the base and the coil before you put a new wick in. And you have to get the bottom part of the chimney clean and dry or it drags the wick out of position when you put back on. But I'm very interested in any technique that allows me to save time through being lazy. I'm not a clean freak or a perfectionist.

Same here. Since half the time to build a new coil is getting the supplies out, I wrap as many as I can all at once.

I've never seen any need to do any of that cleaning. Cleaning the coil, yes, if I was rewicking, but that's why I avoid rewicking. If either the coil or the wick needs replacement, I replace both. But, it's a little easier for me since the Subtank RBA deck has more working space than a Protank coil.

I have a pair of

that I use to bend the wire around the screw. They lock, so you don't need a third hand.

Hi folks! Been a while since I've tormented y'all. Thought I'd come by and say HOWDY!

I caught JC's stash count  I know I've stashed a buzz-load of coils, but nothing like that. I try to get RDTAs or tanks with RBA heads when I can. Otherwise, I do suck it up and get a few boxes put away.

Hope y'all have been keeping well! I'll swing back by another time :)

Why make a whole new coil? Just replace the wick.
