Just saw a news story where some 18 year old kid in Naples, FL had his mod blow up in his face. They interviewed his mom in front of the hospital and of course she condemned the whole industry stating that E-cigarettes were dangerous and shouldn't be sold. Ten bucks says he was a cloud chaser on an unregulated mechanical mod with a dripper on top. Probably using an under-rated battery as well as an ultralow ohm coil. Of course I don't know any of that but, the regulated devices these days protect you from just about everything. The industry is moving toward safety not risk but, you can lead a horse to water etc.

For some, the reprogramming happens in a minute. For others, it takes awhile. The trick for me was finding a juice that I loved. And saying to myself with no small measure of sternness, I can do this! The other trick is not to stress about it

I apreciate the limiter but I would only want to hit it to protect the wick not set my vape temperature.

If its cold out I may want a warmer vape so I'll draw slower. I cant imagine having to adjust a setting to get a warmer oe cooler vape.

TC sets the coil temperature, not the vapor temperature. In some ways that's a distinction without a difference, but I personally enjoy the effects.

The harder I draw, the more vapor is produced. That's because the power is applied to the coil for a greater percentage of the time with a hard draw than with a soft draw, due to greater cooling airflow over the coil with a hard draw.

I'm not trying to convince anyone to use TC. I'm just trying to explain why I like it to someone who thinks there's no plus side about it.

Consistency of flavor is where I find TC to shine. Whether I take a long slow draw or a quick fast draw, the taste, quality and temperature of the vapor remain consistent. The only thing that changes is volume-per-second. I like that. The mechanism more closely approaches the way I used to smoke, except that the heat doesn't increase. I'm completely delighted with variable power vaping; I'm completelier delighteder with TC.*

*Did you hear about the lightning bug that backed into a spinning fan blade? It was delighted.

Oh yes thanks for the replies! We have found a really good shop about 8 miles away from the hotel we're staying in. The shop on the next road is only 1 mile and great to have nearby for coils and such but they stay extremely busy and don't seem to have time to discuss concerns or questions. My husband has the cool fire and he loves it and he started vaping huge clouds right off. He's a natural. He smoked full flavor cigs for as many years as I smoked and is very close to done. He now smokes about 3 a day if that. I can tell by his breathing that he's getting better. He bought the triton for his backup cartomizer? Is that what y'all call it? Then he got a dripper and likes that too but he stays too busy at work to use it much. He's building things like crazy. I love it all. I hope we will be able to continue vaping because I have met heaps of good people who've quit smoking and now are so much healthier. I hope you all have continued success and pleasure in your vaping endeavors. Coffee anyone? Ohh I need some good ideas for coffee flavors

I've tried it. I had a prototype DNA 200 for six weeks. I have a VTC mini sitting here next to me.

I set the DNA up to protect the wick, I never hit the temp limiter. Not once.

I lowered the limiter to 430*F, which is the average temp I vape at with the limiter set to 500*F. It felt very wierd to me, artifical if you will that I could not control the temperature with airflow.

I used a Velocity RDA but I could taste the wick drying out well before the coil temp hit the 500*F limiter.

Maybe it's just that experience has given me the skills to set up a PV so that the features of TC are irrelevant to me.

I'm not suggesting that there is anything wrong with it. Its just a tool/toy that I don't seem to need.

I do like the EScribe software though, was a little buggy but fun to play with.

I really don't understand "TC". I do understand the need for "wick protection".

I design my coil and set my power level to hit a temperature equilibrium based on liquid evaporation and airflow cooling.

So really there are only three variables: area, power, airflow.

As long as the wick is wet the coil comes up to the temperature I want and levels off.

Above, y'all were talking about a TC mod that has a set 40W power level for the ramp-up. For me that would be far to fast. I want to feel the temperature ramp up over a few seconds then hit equilibrium with the air cooling.

I apreciate the limiter but I would only want to hit it to protect the wick not set my vape temperature.

Another thing, I dont get dry hits so the wick protection finction is useless to me.

Your not alone ... I tried out TC on DNA40, Evic, eLeaf ... it worked well after I learned a bit on setting it up. But even then I kept going back to my kanthal builds. Never tried an SX TC board. Like BigBells said, I too noticed the consistency of the vape but 'for me' I still preferred my 'standard' kanthal builds. To get close to what I liked w/ TC I had to use too airy a draw on the topper. And I don't like sucking on a milkshake straw ... I like a bit of resistance to the draw as I'm a MTL vaper.

That said ... I can see revisiting it at some time.

Me, it took me a couple month's to finally stop smoking altogether. After 45 years of smoking and up to 2+ ppd at the end, I'll be smoke free 4 years in a couple weeks.

he, he ... I lost interest in the DNA200 when I got a few looks at what the eScribe s/w was capable of and what people were doing with it. At that point I knew I didn't want my vaping to be that technical. Over the past few years I've gotten to 2 Kanthal builds I like, 1 for mechs and 1 for regulated ... for now I'm good w/ that.

Got a TC question. Now that I have a pair of TC40W when the battery on one runs out I can swap the tank to a new device and vape on. However when I swap the tank its already warm and not at room temperature. Since the chip uses the temperature of the tank at room temperature to base the temp control on, what do I do to make the new device aware of what the room temp resistance is? Inquiring minds want to know.

Well if that particular chip locks the resistance in you need to let it cool for 10-15 minutes before you fire it up. If it refines the resistance I wouldn't think it would matter but don't know much about refining all mine lock the resistance in so I have to wait to get the proper resistance especially with NI200 it has the highest resistance change with heat.

Yeah that sw is something else. Strictly for the guys that like to experiment on things. The SXM with the new upgrade is really easy. Put your wire in if it is Ni or Ti use those modes if it is something else like the NiFe48 from Zivipf then you use manual TCR adjustment of .00405 lock in your resistance and room temp and vape away but you can't put your own messages on it like the 200 don't get the Unkamen NiFe52 they are calling it notfethal or something like that no one has figured it out yet.

From what I have been reading the Zivipf NiFe48 can be wrapped in a contact coil and dry burned just like kanthal. An 8 wrap 2.5mm coil comes in around .4+ ohms and works well with temp control. Now Wire Wizard will give you the temp offset if using a mod with just Ni or Ti modes.

You and your hubby are doing great!! It took me awhile to get used to drawing on it differently also, but you'll get it. Once in awhile, after 3.5 years I still find I have to tell myself to slow the draw.

Welcome! You found one ot the best threads in the forum. The other is the back porch. The porches are full of huge hearted people who really care. Ask any qiestions, rant any rants, celebrate or cry, we handle it all with love, caring and sharing. You and your husband are doing great. There is a learning curve, but the curve smooths out as you go along.

I also found juice the hardest. It isn't that hard to find hardware that will work for you, but flavors takes experimenting. So ask any questions. Oh, and we love to spend OPM (other people's money)!

She said she feels it would be stupid to roll the date back to 2007 after all the work that has gone into ecigs to make them more safe and efficient. Less harmful then the beginning. You guys that are delving into the world of TC. When you get ready to see how good it can be get an SX Mclass. Get it from Varitube best CS around and most knowledgable and will make sure the new firmware is installed before you get it. It is actually Temperature Limiting with this device and the purpose is really not about the wick it is about the vape and if you are getting harmful stuff from your liquid. The SX is only 60w and they have lowered the price $20 to $179 + get the YiHi sleeve not an off brand. Everything is controllable, no new coil, same coil stuff. I know it is a lot of money but using nickel or titanium any size wire and size coil but needs to be spaced for proper performance these things are dialed in now so when you set them up which is very easy after a little practice you will get the same vape every time till the coil gets gunked up. 400F with either wire and if you want to use Kanthal just go to Power Mode. People that get them are amazed at how good they work. Plus now you have the ability to use any wire that may come up in the future. Like I say it is a lot of money but no one thought that about the Provari and they are a beautiful mod but the thing about these is they work with the new wires. The new wires are amazing too but you have to have a device you can use them on. I only have experience with them with the Kanger STM which is because they have nearly 0 static resistance but the guys on the other threads use all kinds of atties. I use them because they work. I know this sounds like an ad but you will really enjoy these. Don't get mad at me if you don't but I am so convinced these are the best TC, actually TL devices on the market today for the money. They are fairly easy to use and once set up the only thing you have to change is relock the resistance if you change atties. You also need the right battery and for my money the LG HG2 is the one to get. Do not use the USB port for charging and never force the battery cap. They take a little getting used to but once you got it down they are a piece of cake but these are for people who are really serious about using TC like me.
