Be careful not to unthread it right off the rba part...

Good point, kwalka. It's a good thing the parts are interchangeable for those who would like to run wide open like you ;)

I use fairly thin juice and am not equipped to run the 1.21 gigawatt setups you like so I don't think I'll ever crank it very far open, but what a mess that would be!

80% of the silica produced globally is not safe for our use. If you have silica that burns or cant even take a lighter flame do not use it. Quality silica should easily take a full torch with no effect.

Thats what I thought, I got some new 3mm silica from someone Ive got it from before and when I went to torch it, it burned. Imm going to contact the seller.

no problems, I torched it some more and it did whiten up.

Damn. The Terminator-C is a heavy beast. Put it on the end of a Vamo and you've got something that looks and feels like you could really bash skulls with it.

The ones from silicawicks dont fray and become bits, it just doesnt have as high a temp resistance like the ceramic silica like the ones on the bottom photo. The german one I get is not as tightly wound, but it has a real high temp resistance about 1000 centigrades which is 1862 Fahrenheit. If I torture the silicawicks silica like I do the ceramic silicas it does not hold up over a few seconds . I just flame it lightly to burn off any left over coatings after the boiling I do to all my silica. I dont think its bad, just not as tuff. I guess Ive been spoiled by the ceramic silica's. I have had some that came with atties that cant even hold up to light flaming and some that came with an expensive atomizer that was soooo flaky that just touching it gave me splinters and cut my fingers and came apart almost like a dandelion. Stay away from those. Ive seen some sites that sell fibreglass wicks, now that would be a no no, wouldnt it?

Please let us know where you got the bottom picts ones, those look like ekowool and I cant seem to find it where I dont end up paying just as much for shipping.

I just gave the silicawicks silica a torching with blue flame and it went from the grey colour that just the bic lighter gave to complete white, burned my fingers but I feel much better now that I know its safe. SO I guess I take that back, the fact that I said a plain lighter works to torch the wicks. Blue flame really burns off any coating MUCH better.

The flame of a lighter gets to about 600 degrees Celsius, and that's not quite enough. A torch lighter is waaay better ;)

another thing, after the hardcore torching the flavour is even more fantastic. The heavy torching bringing out the true flavour now, I was getting a slight sweet taste to my usually un-sweet tobaccos, Im happier now.

I will be now torching my wicks with a torch only, but got to find a pair of tweezers or clamps that are not in perfect shape, cause my fingers are looking pretty bad with all the heat.

Wow, I took a picture of my freshly made wick/coil and on the computer screen I was able to see all the loose fibers of silica that I'm leaving behind, going to have to make some changes to my procedure.Term Wick.jpg

I've been thinking about cotton yarn and cheesecloth, I don't dry burn, prefer just to make a new one.
I have the Peach's and Cream and cheesecloth so maybe next coil.

where are you getting your wick? I had a silica that was very "furry" and it actually left microscopic splinters on my hands, that itched badly. I dont get that one any more. The little threads are probably from when you cut the top piece, I just blow real hard or use canned air to blow off any threads left from trimming. There is a seller on ebay that sells my favorite wick. Its definitely ceramic silica like the Nextel but not as stiff or thick, more loosely braided. It can withstand about 1800 Fahrenheit. The one from silicawicks.com is also really good and firm and can handle blue flame, it will turn darkish gray then orange then pure white like the ceramic ones.

I really want to get my hands on some of that Ekowool that Knut uses, but its even harder to find than the Nextel. Ive only seen it on a Canadian site but the shipping is just as much as the wick. Knut has not come back and shared the info on where he gets it. Ekowool has a website and they sell it, but not sure what size to get.

Nextel comes with 3 pages of info about burning off the chemicals used in manufacturing. Also included is info about silica particle size and how their products particle size is way too large to get into the lungs.
I have these 3 pages saved in the PC for anybody interested.

Interested. Can you post?

If you are asking me, the stuff I'm using came from COV
