where are you getting your wick?

I have 40' of silica from silica wicksdotcom. I have not tried it because when I bought my Odys way back when SW.com didn't exist. So I bought like 30 packages of wick from COV. It was never in stock so when it was I stocked up. I am just about out of the COV stock, from use and including in sales to members. So I will put the torch to it and see what happens. This 40' was from the very first order SW.com got from China. I am not sure (have no clue) where they get it anymore. So my results may or may not apply to current stock.

I got some 3mm silica from silica wicksdotcom back in August and it sheds more than my cat/dog. Was this a one off type thing? I havent touched silica since.

Nextel sounds interesting (and available) is the 1/16th the way to go for the term?

can you drill out the side channels to fit the nextel 1/16th? I know you can for the coil area.

that is the good stuff. I havent bought it yet, when I needed silica they were always out, now they have it, and I have too much silica on hand now. All the GG owners swear on it, but they all say you have to torch it for best taste.

I think quite a few people have made the channels wider. Im a bit of a chicken, but its pretty easy from what I seen and no one has cracked the ceramic from doing it, but IT can happen

The 1/16 from Omega is not thick enough for the Ody/Term, etc... I have not tried doubling it up yet. I am afraid that it gets so stiff once torched that if doubled it will create a gap between the 2 legs down each side that will create a path for juice to travel.

Anavid, the stuff I bought from you was 1/8 not 1/16. I have 1/16 and 1/8 that I got from Omega and your stuff was 100% 1/8.
I am also a master carpenter so I've been dealing w fractional dimensions for 20 yrs

Wow, a great guy and a carpenter. I really admire people who can fix, make and adapt things to make them work. No wonder my Nextel was so thick. The first spool of nextel cost me an arm and a leg, the second I got from a seller on ebay, it was only 45.00 for a 100 feet. Now the seller doesnt have any. Maybe he worked for Omega and got some extra to sell because he no longer has it for sale.

Now I just use it for other things or the top piece.

wow, thats a big difference, I didnt pay quite that much but about 150.00 split it with a buddy. Then I ended either selling some samples so others could try it out and then I gave away some to others. I sold about half to another friend overseas, and still have about 50 feet or so of the one from ebay. GOing to have to stop giving stuff away so much, but its hard not to. :)

Does anybody else think the top cap (part names as labeled on SVCs replacement parts listings) o-ring is ever so slightly too large? Or maybe could offer a comparison to mine? I can't seem to get the top cap screwed down to what I would consider be "all the way"; I can kind of wiggle the top cap around by pushing on one side or another after tightening as much as I can.

When it is screwed down all the way you can see a line where they meet but there is no gap what so ever, mine is very tight fitting.
Remove the o-ring, test the fit then, will it screw all the way down?

Okay, now I am confused.....Clarification for the dense pls.

So the part number for Nextel that will fit the term/Ody is: XC-18 ?

Edit: Recheck earlier post #27 etc. Synthros and Anavidfan were talking XC-116. That ebay posting was for 1/16 as well....

Kwalka?

XC-18 is darn near 1/4 OD, way to big for anything here, even XC-116 is kind of big
Just happens to be what I'm working with right now, I'm going to de-braid it and use it "straight"
Kind of time consuming, I think I'll take it to work so I can get paid to do it.

Yeah, the fit is definitely different without the o-ring. Also, I happend to have a couple if inner o-rings for a standard SmokTech DCT lying on my desk so I threw one of those in there last night and the cap then screwed all the way down. With the supplied o-ring I'll tighten the cap as much as I can, and I can literally push on one side of it and get it to hang over the edge of the tank cap on the other side (just a little bit), and then push it back the other way, etc.

I checked mine and here is what I see, the "nut" make contact with the o-ring when almost all the way down, after contact it turn pretty much exactly 3/8 of a turn and bottoms out on tank top piece

I have XS 116 10 , which I got directly from Omega. It is about 2 mm. The other stuff I have was said to be 1/8" and its about 1/4". I tried the 1/8 in my Ody V2 and I ripped it apart after a few hrs cuz it wouldn't wick. I have not tried the 1/16 because I know its too small and I bought it for a genny atty not Ody.

So unfortunately I dont have a part # that I know will fit. The stuff I tried and was too thick was from 2 diff sources, not Omega so I can only go by what I was told.

When ordering:
XC= ceramic XS= silica sleeve (like a straw)
116 =1/16' 118 = 1/8"
10 = 10' etc...

Just using a ruler (all I've got; and it's not even a "real" ruler but rather the SmartRuler app for Andriod) so not super precise; this o-ring appears to be 2mm in diameter and 12ish mm OD.
2 mm x 9 mm is the size listed for it, i guess 9 would be ID ?
