Yeah, I've not torn apart a VOCC. Not sure I'm going to. And, I'm probably thinking about the Subtank coils, not the PT2-like coils.... I've seen a new one, but I have so many of the regular ones that I rebuild, it's not worth an investment...

I personally think it's 10 times easier to just rebuild them with a horizontal coil. I never get the wicking right when I try to build a vertical coil. I don't know why I guess it's some kind of mental block. But then again I am challenged!

Honestly I have to say my old machines (which I will run into the ground) work as fast or faster than modern equipment with the programs that were designed for them.

I still use the DOS version of Peachtree (an accounting program) for my one bookkeeping client. It never, ever crashes ever. I even maintain a 700MhZ box to run Win98 on, since that supports the last version of DOS that the program gets along with.

Running DOS on a 700MhZ Win98 machine, everything happens pretty much instantaneously.

I remember how proud I was of that machine when I built it. A real hotrod. 15+ years ago...

Tried opening up to check. It's tight as tight can be. Although, it did fix the problem for some reason. Although the flavor is a bit off still, but that's probably because of a different coil.

The coil is said to be 1,5ohm, but reads now steadily at 1,96ohm.

And the coil the tank came with is 2.0ohm, but reads 2,19ohm.

Why is it so off?

I used to be a pinball and video game tech. You have no idea how many things I have fixed by taking them apart, finding nothing wrong, and putting them back together.

It totally sucked, in every possible way; I started thinking the Blue Screen of Death was a regular feature. I got my first XP Pro system right after that, and good lord, it was like the promised land after 2 yrs of ME. I got a refurb XP Pro box in Dec '11, and used that until March of this year, so almost a full year without Windows updates, which was GREAT, but I worried about hackers, spending as much time online as I do -- I was waiting for 8.1 -- I know better than to grab any Win release before there's a .1 of it, it's ALWAYS crap. I'm glad I waited; 8.1 isn't terrible, but there are a few little glitches at times -- really hate to think how awful 8.0 would have been.

That system you pictured though.. I'm thinking that was either Win386 or the very first Win 3.0 -- Win 3.1 was one of the best they've done, right up there with win 98 SE and XP Pro. Windows 286 should have been called "Window" because it couldn't really multitask; at that point, Desqview was better -- it used QEMM instead of himem.sys.

You must never have found the Blue Screen of Death setting in Win ME. It was buried three layers down in the power settings menu. There was a drop down menu menu titled "BSOD?", and the options were:

Frequent But Predictable
Infrequent But Less Predictable
On Startup

That would be a real trick, eh? It's almost like Kanger would rather that you use a new coil head than replace the wick on an old one.

thinking it would be tricky
the older horizontal style, but then you have the vertical

with some pointy needle nose & patience one could remove cotton/dryburn/poke cotton back in...

Thank you, @Eric Auer. I've started yet another SpreadSheet!! (don't ask -- if you didn't follow the Itty Bitty thread, you will not understand my aversion to spreadsheets)

@Katdarling that bottom fire button is what kept me from getting some mechs for a long time. But now that I have all these I bought on clearance, I'm finding it isn't anywhere near as big an issue as I thought it would be. These things are really short, even in 18650 mode, because they don't have that regulated board in them. So even though I have small hands, it's not hard at all for me to fire it with my middle finger. But as Eric said, a box mech might be something you'd like better,.

I asked about cartomizers because Ecig Charleston had a bunch of them on sale at 5 for 99 cents. I have no idea if they are "good" ones or not, or whether that's a good price. But I've been thinking about getting some of those ever since I saw them.

I do 'hate' you for that clearance page. Oh I wanna shop til. In terms of your question tho, I did prefer the IKV and secondarily Boge kartos, but I found a good use for the Smoktech Resurrectors (1.7s and XL. dayum good). For those prices? I can't see NOT stocking up on a few (thousand).

My initial hypothesis: the heavier bases somehow make for a better vape. The GS Air M also has a moderately thick-ish base and I've had exceptional results from it, too. The tanks that have thin little platforms to screw the coils into? They just don't seem to be as good. If they work, the coil starts tasting bad fast. Or else the coil tastes bad from the get go. This is my experience, of course. Maybe not the case for others.

Oh..and my 6 week old coil? I discovered that the grommet/gasket thingy on the pin had semi-rotted and broken. I pulled it off and put a new one from one of the coils I'd rejected from the Davide and it's good as new again!

Fallen Angel; about $40-ish... though I have to say, I find the side-mount btn at the bottom quite awkward; it's a very good quality mod, from EHPro, and telescoping so you could use any size battery. For side mount btns at the top, there's Poldiak, pretty expensive but I think that doesn't bother you; I hear they're *really great* mods. Also another called the Roller; less pricey than the Poldiaks, more pricey than the Fallen Angel, but no idea if or where they might be available; maybe could find one in the classies?

The Galileo is about $35 (MadVapes); it has the bottom button, but it's a very strong magnet; you can set it down without it accidentally firing. It's also very high quality, Smoktech, and telescoping, so any size battery.

I have an original EA Mod W/AFC from Electronic Angel. It has the pinky fire like the EA Clone. I'm trying to load pictures but I just bought a new computer a couple of days ago that is running Windows 10 and I'm totally lost right now (was using Vista) on how to change the picture size so I can upload it to ECF. I'll get soon enough but if anyone has any tips it would be greatly appreciated.

Does 10 has Picture Resizer? I love that lil program.

I cant count how many times working on aircraft the repair resolution would be "Removed gauge, inspected with no defects noted, reinstalled gauge. Function checked good." and it would go forever without another problem.

Dinger pointed out that those excellent Galileos are only $25 at Hoosier vapes. Really great mech mods, and very nice looking too, a little out of the ordinary --

so I don't really mind that I paid $35 at MadVapes for mine. You see it's standing on end on its button, and not firing, even with a full kayfun on it -- granted, with the plastic M-tank, the kayfun isn't as heavy as with the stainless rings, but I've tried it with those too, and it still doesn't fire -- very strong magnet! At first I thought that bottom btn would be awkward, but it turned out to be a lot less awkward than the side-mount btn on the bottom, on the Fallen Angel (EA clone).

Maybe it's sorta like wine... an acquired taste. I really thought I wouldn't like it, but I found that after something like an hour's use, it began to feel quite natural. My main gripe with mechs, since I do always use a Kick with them, is the lack of screen -- you know I started with "real" mods with a vv3, so almost since the very start, I've been accustomed to being able to learn things about my vape, from the handy little screen -- if the resistance or battery is doing something odd, or I'm just not getting the vape I think I ought to be getting, a regulated mod can show me data very easily; I don't have to take things apart, test the batteries in a charger, test the coil on my Omnitester, etc. Mechs are just kind of a hassle in that regard, at least in my oh so humble opinion. I'm a geek; I like and appreciate geek toys, and "data" is a great thing to be able to get easily.

Chopdoc's anecdote about disassembling something that seemed to be malfunctioning, which is apparently "fixed" simply by disassembling/reassembling... that sounds like par for the course with a mech.

they do come apart as shown in pic below they are a very tight press fit but can be removed

Not terrible at all. Most tube mech mods have bottom firing buttons.

Re: the bottom-firing mechs - I'm finding that I actually hold the mod down a little farther (kinda like a microphone for karaoke) and use my ring finger to fire. I have a strong pinky, but it feels more "secure" with the ring-fingah-fire method.

Galileo has a nice locking ring. I feel VERY comfortable standing it on end when locked (and to Andria's point, I almost don't have to lock it - but paranoia dictates )

I have a couple of other mechs with the bottom-firing switch. Neither has any kind of locking rings - one does have recesses so it almost has a little "stand" around the button, so I can't fire it just setting on its end. The other - for a $3.50 mech, it's mostly vapocalypse stash material, but it has a super-strong magnet - I did set it on its end, and it did NOT fire. That won't be par for the course, tho....

Can anyone explain this? I use the Kanger enclosed silica dual coils for my Aerotanks because I'm sick of finding fibers in my juice.

Each starts out enclosed, yet by the time I'm ready to refill they've started sprouting little (and sometimes not so little) wick wings.

Is this the true nature of the beast, or am I doing something wrong?
