Nicotine is harmless in the way we ingest it vaping. (see attached link)
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...tine-may-not-toxic-weve-been-led-believe.html

But wheat can kill you, or at least has been shown to cause serious health problems in humans. So why do organizations like the American Heart Association try to claim it as heart healthy when in fact it has been shown to be the opposite? Is it big agriculture and big food that want us to stay addicted to it, not to mention big pharm making a fortune on our illness from eating wheat and grains...hmmm think about it folks.

Ok so now that the thread is winding down, I've been following along for several pages biting my tongue about having been shot down about twenty pages ago when I brought up the issue of modern day wheat being truely addictive and the fact that is in fact harmful in many ways. I wish I had spoken up sooner but didnt want to derail the nicotine discussion.

So I'll just keep it short...
It's going to take a decade or more for the American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association to back away from the poor dietary advice they currently hold. Mosty likely because of the likelyhood they'll have of being sued by people who are being harmed by following their advice. So I'm not suprised by the skeptics who have convinced themselves that wheat, grains and other carbs are some kind of superfood or so called "sturdy backbone" of diet.

Modern Wheat has a content of 75% Amylopectin A, which is no better than even the simplest carbohydrate Sucrose. Yet dieticians characterize it as a complex carbohydrate. Eating a snickers candy bar is in fact much more healthy and about half the glycemic load as two slices of whole wheat bread not to mention the snickers bar is more nutritious than two slices of whole wheat bread. Whole wheat bread will surge your blood sugar like a glycemic roller coaster ride...and it will raise your triglyderides in the process. Hardly what could be characterized as being heart healthy.

Avoiding wheat in your diet can give you :
Dramatic and substantial excess wheight loss.
Reduced appetite / calorie intake / food obsession
Reduced blood sugar
Reduced joint pain
Reduced inflammation (c-reactive protein)
Reduced blood pressure
Reduction of triglycerides / increased HDL / reduced small particle LDL
Increased energy, improved sleep
Less acid reflux, less bowel issues

And I am NOT speaking about celiac disease...
There are hundreds of diseases and symptoms that are being discovered by medical science and real world case studies showing vast improvement or completely cured by reducing or eliminating wheat intake. Wheat is being linked to heart disease, obesity, high cholesterol, autoimmune diseases, gastro intestinal diseases, ibs colitis, celiacs disease, macular degeneration, Alzheimers. Mental health issues like ADD, ADHD, Depression, Schizophrenia, Bi-polar disorders

I'm not going to bother going into detail about how gliadin polypeptides ( from the glia alpha9 gene) in wheat are received into our brains opiate receptor cells, triggering appetite and the satiated feeling and then roller coaster back into hunger for more appetite. Or how it usually causes the average north american to add about 450 or more extra calories a day. Probably the reason why many food companies put wheat into processed foods that dont really need them, like twisslers candy so that people will get that "cant eat just one feeling".

Nor will I go into detail about how certain toxins (lectins) in modern wheat can and do cause serious intestinal damage or how mechanisms of gliadin induced zonulin release increases intestinal permeability, causing the onset of autoimmunity, leaky gut syndrome, inflammatory disease, and serious intestinal problems which can cause some folks to need surgery to remove portions of their intestine !. So folks with gallstones and abdominal pains or surgeries may want to pay attention to the videos because there is something worth consideration here

So I'm not going to bother to go into any lengthy rants, other than mention that many people have found vast improvement in their general health conditions by avoiding wheat in their daily diets. Those of you who have children with add or adhd, please watch this video as it addresses how this ailment can disappear by removing wheat from the kids diet.

Anyway, I'll link you to my brothers cardiologist and let him fill you in.
Dr William Davis saved my brothers life through his trackyourplaquedotcom website and has made a significant improvement in my life and my daughters life by following his dietary advice. Including avoiding wheat and grains along with taking 3000 mg of omega 3 and 6000units of vitamin d3 daily. He has written several books including track your plaque and wheat belly and has appeared on all the major networks and dr oz.

My advice is it cant hurt for you to try it for yourself for a month or two. I personally guarantee you will feel a lot better too.
It is nearly impossible to completely eliminate all wheat as its in so many foods these days, but just avoiding it as much as possible will yield very positive results for most people.

ps..in these videos dr davis does make a comparison between big food agribusiness and big tobacco.

Nicotine is harmless. But wheat can kill you.

You should've just hit "send" after that statement, because nobody would bother to read anything you write below it, based on how inaccurate that is. Whether you want to believe it, or not, nicotine is a toxin. Is it harmless in the way we ingest it? Most likely. Kinda like how wheat is harmless in the way we ingest it.

Edited that first sentance for you. As for wheat being harmless, well thats your opinion and you can ignore medical findings if you wish. Hopefully it will remain harmless for you and your family. The same cannot be said for thousands of people who have improved their health by avoiding wheat, grains and gmo's in their diets.

if it was highlighted on Dr. Oz that makes your claims suspect
from the start. dietary changes can and do help some people
adjust to their pre-existing conditions but represent only a
very small percentage of the population of those so inflicted.
there is no reason for anyone to fear eating wheat as the chance
of any ill effects are to low to be of concern to the population in general.

In a society where we're surrounded by poison passed off as food, such a statistic will always be true. Choose to only eat actual food and the percentage of said group increases significantly.

P.S. wheat isn't an actual food. Humans had to make it edible. That should be your first clue.

yes neither corn or wheat ingestion is of any concern
to otherwise healthy individuals.

In moderation...

But as a staple in a western diet. Well, the overwhelming evidence suggests otherwise.

As a truck driver I run into someone every week or so who's lost 80 plus pounds within the last year and cured nearly all their ailments by simply avoiding bread, corn and potatoes on an otherwise not so healthy diet living a sedentary life style.

Not to mention what avoiding those things most of the time has done for my 2 young, otherwise healthy children.

I wonder how many of those modern Brits know that when they hold up those two fingers (what Americans consider a "peace sign"), they're actually showing the rude gesture of the English archers to the French who threatened to cut off those archers' fingers... :D

Andria

Andrea,

You're actually confusing about 3 different things here.

First, hand gestures are almost always "palm out" for friendly gestures, and "Knuckles out" for unfriendly ones. Think waving vs. waving your fist, vs. the Italian "back of the hand" gesture. Think of the OK gesture, and others.

The peace sign is given palm out, and is a friendly gesture.

The "Modern Brit" 2-fingered salute is given knuckles out, and means pretty much the same thing that the American 1-fingered version means, and I thought its origin was pretty common knowledge, at least over there.

If ordering 2 pints in a pub (not that you would....) it's very important for Americans to understand the correct hand orientation, else you'd likely find yourself face-down on the pavement outside, and not from the higher alcohol content!

When I want some milk to drink I go outside and squirt some in my mouth from the cow in my backyard.

When I want some water, I drink a glass from the ocean or the pond in my backyard.

When I want some meat I kill the cow in my backyard and start chewing.

have never met anyone who has lost weight avoiding those three things.

Those people were getting their carbs in a completely different manner.

Though I bet plenty of them touted the Atkins diet as beneficial at some point.

Now that this thread has derailed completely :

Gestures depend also on culture. I won't explain my life story but when I moved to Portugal as a kid, I was confused by simple things one of them being some different Gestures I never could quite grab.

For example:

1. Calling someone with your hand. In Germany, you would extend your arm, Palm faced up and contract your four fingers. In Portugal, you extend and lift you arm a bit with the palm FACED DOWN and contract your fingers... Basically it's the inverted movement of the German style.

2. When counting by your fingers, in Germany you would start with your thumb and end with you tiny. In Portugal, you start with the tiny and end with your thumb.

3. Showing the middle finger in Germany has a slightly different meaning depending if you bend the index and ring finger or just close the hand completely. In Portugal it has the same meaning regardless of the other finger positions (unless you extend 3 of them and tell the opposing person to read between the lines :D)

There are even countries where nodding means no and shaking side by side means yes (if I wasn't tricked by my kindergarten teacher... I never actually confirmed that on the net).

Regards
Tony

Well good god, if I lost 80 lbs, I'd be dead. I weigh 137 lbs! Never had a problem with any grains, and don't expect to start, at this advanced age. Well, let me amend that: bread MOLD causes me all kinds of problems -- penicillin allergy, but even moldy bread in the fridge gives me the itch, just like penicillin. Moldy cheese on the other hand causes me no issues.

If someone is in need of losing 50+ lbs, I'd think there are probably a lot of worse culprits than grains. Like sugar... or just eating too damn much of everything!!!

Both byproducts of too much wheat products in your diet. Add in that they're sitting behind the wheel, sleeping and repeating and the negatives multiply quickly. Seems cutting portions into thirds is common once these guys cut out the breads. The body gets its nutrients and quickly learns to crave less.

Seeing the excess skin hanging off some of these guys is something else.

FYI: I'm not suggesting you change anything. Just supporting good information that rarely is heard.

Just speaking as another "anecdote" here. My son suffered a lot with ADD, though fortunately none of the ADHD variety. But when I was discovering this about how such a brilliant person could fail in school, I realized that I had suffered the exact same problem when I was a kid, they just didn't know what to call it back then -- they thought I was lazy, or unmotivated, or just generally "seeking attention." But I learned pretty quickly after starting smoking (when I was 13) that smoking sharpened my attention and focusing skills dramatically. My son didn't start smoking till he was 18, away from home, but he discovered the same thing.

Now that nicotine can be delivered in several non-toxic ways, I wouldn't hesitate to give it to any child who struggles with this attention problem; I wish I'd understood this about nicotine, when my boy was struggling so badly.

Andria

I was doing some googling about this last night. Seems there have been a few "tries" with children and actually the initial results were positive. They one study did a nicotine patch (5mg/16 hrs) but they pulled the plug on the study because some kids had side effects (nausea, itching under patch on their skin, dizziness) so I am guessing it was too high a dose perhaps for them? I'll have to keep looking to see if there are more studies and whatnot. By the looks of it they want to, just need to learn to control the dose and still be effective.

I agree on both counts. (This post and previous one, although no experience with the corn part). My sister actually was trying to lose a few pounds (not a lot), and cut out bread, pasta, potato, and rice from her diet (no exercise, or other things cut out). She lost 15 lbs in a few weeks time. She now eats these things sparingly, and has maintained her weight. (My Dr. has said an all protein/high protein diet over a long time could be unhealthy as well, such like the Atkins diet).

Also, my husband is from Europe, and I can remember when we first got married, he commented several times how everything, even the breads in the US are so sweet and had lots of sugar in it. I remember thinking, sugar in bread? Sure enough, there is sugar in bread.
