Reminds me of the beginning of the end for a multi-color play-dough kit. I got a pair of imitation crocs a couple of years ago, and they were so good, I figured the real thing would be much better. Made in Mexico is so much better than made in China.

That's what mine looked like after I finished painting the house last year... :D

You're obviously a better painter than I am.. I get more paint on me than on the walls. It's a talent LOL!

I finally have enough saved to graduate from the tiny analog TV I have (screen is smaller than my monitor...;)) so, I went window shopping... seems that everything out there is predominately 4k Smart TV....unless I want to buy a model that's 2 or 3 years old... I understand that there's not a lot of 4k programming (yet..;)) but have been told that it's fine for regular broadcasts. Since it's taken me so long to be able to get something new....it appears to me that I'd best opt for the 4k in an attempt to keep up with the evolving technology. I'm just a bit overwhelmed about what kind of learning curve is going to be involved....just to be able to watch the thing...

hmmm? I don't know if I'm too dumb or too lazy. We've had a Smart TV a couple years now, I've never used any of the Smart TV options/features. Never even connected it to our Wifi network. We just use it as any 'old' TV. Turn it on, switch channels. Beyond that I would not know what other capabilities it may have.

Dere will be a lil' LC! But you'll excel.

Will recommend avoidin' most of da on-line reviews as to TV selection. Not many honest/unfettered reviewers out dere...

I do suggest visitin' Amazon fer da question & review sections fer any TV you're interested in.

Also, if ya use Amazon fer your purchase, please order from SMILE AMAZON. Ya can designate a small % of your purchases to your fav charity!

Not a nightmare to operate. Hooking up to wifi is a good thing that gives you lots of nice options, but it is neither necessary nor particularly difficult. Yes, it's true that there is almost nothing you currently watch where there's any viewing difference between a High Definition TV and an Ultra High Definition TV (4K TV), because all or nearly all the content is SD (standard definition) or HD, not UHD.
The best combinations of price and quality, according to Consumer Reports, are generally found in sets made by Samsung and Vizio, with LG also a contender.
I have both an HD large-screen TV, 60", and a UHD large-screen TV, 75". There's no detectable difference in picture quality for anything I've watched, but bigger is better, IMO. I have the 75" TV in a location where I generally watch from 20' away, and the 60' TV in a location where I generally watch from less than 10' away. For the longer distance viewing, I actually wouldn't mind an even larger set. Both sets are Samsung... the 60" is 3.5 years old and the 75" is 1.5 years old. I haven't had any problem at all, knock on wood, with either set, even though at least one of them is on just about 24/7.

Hey, that LC is a big concern of mine when I give thought to replacing the '03 Ford!
1903, right?

We were thinking of replacing ours a year ago. It's an LED and we were thinking to go with Smart TV until I was advised that Smart TVs are not worth the money because the quality of the picture is about the same as on non-smart TVs. With Smart TVs you pay for all the add-ons that are preloaded in it that one may or may not use.

Thanks Dave.... I couldn't afford one as big as either of yours and no wall in my apartment to place one that large....however....there's a 43" Samsung 4k Smart TV that will be arriving here on Wednesday....:) I'm so excited...

Well....I do have Amazon Prime and Netflix.....and if that owl that I love to watch decides to set her fluffy .... down in the nest and stay there next season, I'll be able to see every feather and hear every hoot via YouTube....:D

I understand where you're coming from, yiddle. But, there is really no more learning curve than with any other TV unless you want to dive into the Smart TV features. I had a Smart TV for five years and didn't even know it. I just watched it.

My newest TV has Roku built in, and that turned out to be quite handy. I dropped cable (kept internet) last month, and I now subscribe to Hulu Live TV, which I watch through the Roku feature on my TV. Having it built in saves me having to buy a special Roku box or stick. I save $60 a month by dropping cable TV and subscribing to Hulu live and still have everything I want to watch.

As for 4K, I won't try to talk you out of it. I don't have it. But, I do listen to several tech podcasts, and many so-called experts say they actually cannot tell the difference in an HD picture and a 4K picture. And, as you noted, there is very little 4K content at this time. If you want a 4K TV, by all means buy it. I'm just saying if you find a great deal on a regular HD TV, don't feel like you're settling for second best if you buy it. The technology of that set will be valid for many years. Maybe forever.

ETA: Just saw your most recent post about buying the 43" Samsung. Congrats. That should have a spectacular picture.

Wahoo! Nice! Say does you're computer/laptop have an HDMI out? What a big monitor that TV could be ... hangouts would have life size images of the 'faces' your chatting with.

LOL....I thought abut that...;) PC has an HDMI out port, but....not sure if it works. I tried it with my other monitor and ....nothing. Don't know if it's the monitor or the PC port that is at fault. Monitor I'm using now uses DVI.
