Yeah I subscribed to Audible, they had a special for $4.95 a month for the first 3 months cancel anytime. I have gotten 2 books so far that cost over $15 each so I like that and they read it to you. Lazy mans way.
Yes, Audible is a good option. However, with Overdrive from your local library, you can have the ebook read to you for free. This is within my budget and I'm sure it is within yours, too.

I read a lot myself. Since I began reading via Kindle (Kindle App on iPad, although I do own an early Kindle and a Kindle Paper-White) I haven't read a physical book in a long time. I'm in the process ol replacing my physical library (around 20,000 books) with Kindle versions where they are available. I plan to keep only a few thousand "favorites" (just for sentimental reasons) and anything that is not currently available in eBook form. But for actual reading, Kindle all the way.

I find the Kindle-App version to be so much handier. I can highlight a word and look up the definition, or Google a term, or (best of all) go to a Wikipedia article to find out all about some word, place, or person mentioned in whatever book I'm reading. I would, have to arrange to have an entire reference section within arm's length of everywhere that I read to have that kind of access.
Sounds wonderful!

For most of my life, I've carried a big purse specifically in order to carry books with me wherever I go.

Well, I hope I made a good choice. I just went to Amazon to order something else and saw this Deal of the Day: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J94TJKO/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I hope it's a good choice for a tablet because I ordered it!

ETA: I just realized. It's perfect timing! I have a doctor's appointment in a few weeks!

Thanks, Bea, I have saved the links for reading when my eyes are not as tired. It's good to hear that others are using the new technology.

I haven't read a physical book since Kindle came to the market. Being a greenie I am very happy not to be contributing to cutting down more trees. And I have several thousand books on my PC and on a flash drive. Couldn't do that with physical books!

First I had an actual kindle which hubs now uses while I loaded the app on my mini ipad and it goes everywhere with me.

Like PW I like that that I can lookup/research stuff while reading a book. The last few months have been my medieval "phase". It has been great being able to google so many things that were around back then, especially clothing items and see what they looked it.

BTW PDF books can also be loaded on Kindle. Sometimes when books are converted to the Kindle (mobi) format they get wonky. At those times I prefer PDFs because being photogrsphic formats rhey come out true. Hiwever they are much larger files.

Say, @kross8, have you heard of robinhood stock trading platform? If you have, you can safely ignore the rest of this post, but I think I'm going to open an account. It's no-frills, but, with free trades, it will be beneficial to me, considering that I've been making 2 to 5 trades per week. They have apps for both Apple and Android.

aapl quite the darling 2018 (i like amzn all of 2017+still)

just an update to my views,,(i had to use the search feature to find our chat lol :) hope all is well with you :)

fwiw, imho the markets 'should' break higher,, it looks like a blow off top to me. it can last 5 days or 6 to 8 weeks.

it has nothing to do with politics,, a lot to do with the bond markets,, at 3% the corp lenders start getting nervous about corp defaults......for good reason.

anyway,,, just dropped by to suggest (friendly) to consider moving some of your investments to money markets or bonds.. bonds wont really make you any money,,,, more like 'just barely' hold you up.

retail is in the toilet and food/farm may follow soon,, our nation both the population and the commercial side is saturated with debt,,,,,,,,,, sure many have 'low interest' on overpriced products (imho)

Very nice! I got a 7 last year and feel that it's too small and we all got 8's this year and feel that they're perfect for us. And when you're ready to, it's easy enuf to put Google on it.

I haven't been able to find a device driver for my old printer that works on Linux. So, I only use it on my old Windows computer. But, it didn't work last time I tried. However, I was in a hurry at the time.

So I've cut all the zip ties (from moving) on my printer and old computer and plugged them in. I'll boot it up and see what's up. Maybe I was in such a hurry before that I missed something obvious. It had always worked before.

Ok. Now that I hooked it all up, it does the same thing it was doing before, spitting out empty pages. Hopefully I'm just out of ink. It's just that I thought I remembered that it used to offer to print in color if I was out of black (and vice versa).

I guess I'll have to spend some money on ink to find out. That's probably all there is to it.

LOL. I used to carry an extra suitcase when I travelled, just for the books. (I'm a fast reader and need a lot of books to get me through a week of reading). It used to drive my wife crazy. The Kindle App (and Kindle before it) has never let me down. BTW, the actual Kindle is better for one thing: it can be read in bright sunlight where the iPad is washed out.

The one thing I've learned about having a book with me at all times: it is pointless to try reading while still doped up in the recovery room after surgery; you just keep reading the same sentence over and over.

Have you tried a "generic" driver? May be able to print text, although graphics probably not.

    Thank you. I hope so.

At least, I'll finally have one! I've been putting it off forever because I couldn't decide. This may not be the best. But, it's finally done!

Next paycheck, I'll go ahead and get a case/cover for it and a memory card. I guess the biggest one?
