No, we're south of Champlain too.
The Lake St. Catherine is 5mi long and a mile wide at the widest point.

It is peace to me and what I look forward to every year. You can swim, boat, fish, hike, bike, travel around to interesting places, or just do nothing. It just depends upon what you feel like doing in the morning when you wake up. (T-minus 4 years and counting to retirement)

Your retreat looks so idyllic ... how in the world do you leave it once you're there?

ROFL. The cousins with the good view decided they couldn't. They razed their old cottage, built a beautiful home, and retired in VT. Mind you, they still have property on an island in FL that they can get away to if needed. I have similar dreams if I won the lottery!

Our place is best described as rustic. There isn't a level wall/floor and insulation is paint. It's pretty shabby, not chic, but it's a beautiful place to be.

Doesn't make it sound any less inviting ... maybe more so! A wonderful haven for a retreat. :thumb:

Moreso in my view. We rented a small shack on the NJ bay once. You could feel the history of other families enjoying their stay. Visitors would leave behind seashells they found and vhs tapes for rainy days.

Mine has a slot in the back, like this one.....

You notice the model does NOT pull the backing all the way off. They freeze the video just before the last bit comes loose and the free end snaps back and gets stuck to everything in sight.

Mine doesn't pull the backing off at all. Just loosens it so it separates easily.

I feel like a little kid -- only 5 more sleeps until vacation!!!!!

My great-great grandfather bought a camp on the lake in 1911 (close to the NY border, north of Manchester VT and south of Rutland). Fortunately it got indoor plumbing in '32! I've gone up there nearly every summer since I was 3 months old.

Several cousins also have property around the lake and combined we have nearly every water toy you could ask for - although not the motorized float and I want that! For several years I had a 3 person inflatable raft (a gift from the DH). I'd put in my towel, food, beverage, book and row out to the float, tie up and just chill out letting the clouds go by, rocking on the waves. It was a great way to decompress. One year some intrepid young cousins put a pair of small boat motors on our float, pulled up the cinder block anchors, and took it for a spin.

That's our wrap around porch and boathouse in the background of the hammock. The house used to sit on the ground, we raised it about 20 yrs ago to put a foundation under it. The fire pit is at a cousin's place down the road, they have the best lake view. Am I there yet?

I think it looks perfect! No wonder you look forward to going there. Every year I'd go to Stone Harbor NJ with our neighbor ladies for a long weekend. I started the countdown a month ahead of time on the whiteboard in my office. The house was older and kind of rustic, but we loved it. In later years the family put in a heating system, new tiny kitchen and replaced the phone booth-sized shower. We loved it the way it was. Rustic is often better than fancy new. Sadly, we stopped going since everyone moved away. Sigh. We're all retired now so our weekend is not so desperately needed, but I do miss it. Sometimes there are get-a-ways that have a feeling of peace about them that you can't find in modern accommodations.

I'd settle for loosening it, but mine doesn't have a slot. I found the instructions online and it showed a woman using the "soft pad of the thumb" to just push the backing off. Right. Maybe they should have included her thumb when I bought the unit.

what a beautiful place. There is something so soothing about water. I grew up in a port city and I miss being really close to the shore.

I also have an older P-1180 that originally came with the pointed tool which has since decided to hide from me. Now I just use the blade of my pocket knife to separate the backing and the tip to help in positioning the label. I'm like Fran, I can't justify replacing it and I also have a couple extra rolls of tape, too.

What's funny is I just got 5-6 rolls of the split-back tape.
