A true hybrid has no 510 or top cap, with the atomizer threading directly onto the tube with an extended positive pin contacting the battery. Many tube mods that refer to themselves as hybrids are just 510 threaded without the positive pin. Most actual hybrids have an atty that is dedicated as part of the design, but not all. The "quasi hybrids", with their 510 connector, rely on an appropriate 510 atomizer with an adequately protruding non-sprung positive pin.

The problem with these "quasi hybrids" is that not all atomizers will connect without a risk of a short if the pin is shallow or recedes. I avoid them.
The Broadside Admiral is a true hybrid despite it does come with a top cap. The top cap is entirely optional so, after removing it from the mod and removing the beauty ring from the Culverin RDA, the build deck screws right in there, like so:

Here's my other one, with the top cap installed on it:

I’ve been trying to figure out what is used for the “outside” wicking of many stock coils. It’s definitely not regular cotton as it’s difficult to break. Do you have any ideas?

I was doing some "inventorying" of my stash and forgot that a while ago I bought some thin cotton sheets from FT just like what is used in a lot of stock coils.

It's about as thin as those Lysol wipes or a baby wipe and doesn't pull apart like regular cotton sheets we use like Koh Gen Doh and the like. In fact, I gave good several tugs on a sheet in both directions and it didn't even deform much or create a hole.

They still carry it. Rectangle Cotton Wick for RBA Atomizer (10-Pack) 80*60*0.5mm

I've stocked up pretty well. Around 28 mech squonks (have not taken count lately), 7 regulated squonks, 2 mech tubes, and 4 series mech boxes. I have probably around 30+ RDAs that I really enjoy and another 15 that are useable. 40 year supply of nic, and a lifetime supply of wire and rayon.

In spite of that, I still end up buying more. Just placed another order through Florida Vapor Supply for more RDAs and Trinity caps, and picked up a SQ217 Evil Edition off some other forum. Probably will place another order later for a few more super redundant back ups.

You're going to need to go higher in resistance. If you like an 8-10 watt vape shoot for something on the order of 1.5 ohms. That will probably be easier to achieve with Kanthal than SS.

1.5 to 2 ohms was considered low resistance 6 or 8 years ago when mechs were really popular. Since electronic mods matured I've been winding .5 and .7 ohm coils and vaping them at 10W to 12W. Seems now that what went around once is coming back after FDA threats. :)

It's all kind of crazy as we wait and see what will remain a year after deeming changes the landscape. I did buy a mech recently as a backup if all my electronic mods fail one by one. Maybe I should buy a few more.

Been there, done that! I bought a battery powered stirrer years ago and I usually use it when I diy. Shaking is probably just as good, but the stirrer whips it into tiny bubbles that slowly float up and break. Time to vape ready is about the same. I think it still has the same battery in it after several years of DIY.
What stirrer do you use? I bought a flimsy thing that often struggles; I'd love to get something more sturdy.

The US is weird when it comes to laws and logic. Most things are done because of lobbying. Witch is illegal in Europe for example. Beyond belief...

No wonder tobacco companies will try to ban vaping.

Also , the FDA is not as innocent as many may think. It s influenced by government , but also very relaxed when it comes to safety.

In the EU , it s illegal to produce clorinated chicken , it s illegal to have vitamin E acetate in things...

It s also illegal to vape OILS and THC based liquids.

I am sure some people still do it. but it s way less likely to find the products on the market...

My wife and I have tickets for the Skynyrd farewell tour concert at the Macon Coliseum in May. Looking forward to it! Our band played a good number of Skynyrd tunes over the years.

Seems so long I been out on my own
Travel light and I'm always alone
Guess I was born with a travelin' bone
When my times up, I'll hold my own
You won't find me in an old folks home

You got that right
Said you got that right
Well, you got that right
Sure got that right

why are you astound? is this not the default in your view?
